Research on User-Friendly Augmented Environments
![]() | ![]() |
Jan Borchers' Media Computing Group at RWTH Aachen University works on the Aachen Media Space, a highly flexible next-generation interactive room. Users collaborate on traditional "static" media (text, images), but also time-based media (audio, video), using large interactive displays, spatial audio, and modalities such as gesture and speech. Media-appropriate interfaces (such as humming to find, and conducting gestures to control music) are combined with the iStuff toolkit to rapidly prototype physical, post-desktop UIs. HCI Design Patterns capture design guidelines for augmented environments.
